Former governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson will be traveling to Moscow, Russia, as he attempts to expedite the release of US citizens Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan. The United States considers both to be wrongfully detained in Russia.
The trip comes after Griner's first court hearing in which she pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges. Griner was arrested in February for allegedly having two vape cartridges that each contained less than a gram of cannabis oil.
Whelan was arrested in December 2018 on charges of espionage. In June 2020 he received a sentence of 16 years in prison.
Richardson previously played a part in helping to secure the release of Trevor Reed.
I'm by no means saying she is wrongfully detained, but there should be some justice without I give you her for this!!
